About the photographer

Robin Mehdee

I photograph South Florida's wildlife as a hobby: wading birds on the wetland boardwalks, alligators in the Everglades, iguanas on the seawalls, and whatever the light does after rain. By day I work in technology; the rest of that story is at robinmehdee.com. The photographs also live on Instagram at @robinmehdee.photography.

Questions

Licensing, prints, and where the birds are.

Who took these photographs?
All of them are mine: shot, edited and copyrighted by Robin Mehdee. I photograph as a hobby in South Florida, mostly early mornings on the wetland boardwalks, and this site is the full collection.
Can I use one of your photos?
Yes, on request. Open any photograph and choose "License this photograph", or go to the contact page. Tell me which image and how you want to use it, whether that is editorial, commercial, social, or a personal print, and I will send terms back. Usually the answer is yes.
Can I buy a print?
Yes. Prints are made to order rather than sold from a cart. Send me the photograph you like and the size you have in mind, and I will quote it.
How much does it cost to license or print a photograph?
It depends on the image and the use. A personal print is a different thing from a commercial licence, so there is no fixed price list; ask about the specific photograph and use and you will get a straight number back.
Where in Florida were these taken?
Nearly all of it comes from a handful of places around South Florida: Wakodahatchee Wetlands in Delray Beach, Green Cay Nature Center in Boynton Beach, the Arthur R. Marshall Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge, the Everglades and its Anhinga Trail, and a rotation of local parks and my own backyard. The boardwalks put wading birds within a few feet of you.
What birds and wildlife are in the collection?
Mostly South Florida wading birds: great egrets, great blue herons, tricolored herons, wood storks, cattle egrets, gallinules, plus hawks, cardinals and a macaw. Reptiles are American alligators, green iguanas and anoles. The nature set is flowers, ferns, butterflies and the light after rain. Every photograph is captioned with the species where I could identify it.
When is the best time to photograph birds in South Florida?
The dry season, roughly November through April. Water levels drop, the birds concentrate, and winter migrants arrive. Nesting builds from late winter into spring. Within the day, the first hour after sunrise and the last before sunset.
Are you available for hire, workshops or photo tours?
No. This is personal work, not a business, so I do not take on shoots, workshops or tours. What is on offer is permission to use or print the photographs already in this collection.
